The cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt can transform uncertainty into stability, stability into opportunity, and opportunity into prosperity, said Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, yesterday at the proceedings of the “EGYPES 2026” Conference, which is taking place in Cairo, Egypt.
In his greeting to the Conference, the President of Cyprus, after describing Egypt as his "home" and highlighting his family ties with Alexandria, stated that yesterday was his sixth visit to Egypt as President of the Republic of Cyprus, which reflects the strength of the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, particularly in strategic sectors, such as energy.
He also referred to the two very important Agreements signed last year by the two countries for the development of the "Aphrodite" and "Kronos" fields and expressed satisfaction with yesterday’s signing of a Framework Agreement between Cyprus and Egypt, which, as he said, constitutes another very important step towards capitalizing on their natural gas resources.
Referring to the regional crisis, President Christodoulides said that it threatens stability and is reshaping the international energy landscape, underlining that it is now clear that energy security is not only an economic issue, but also a matter of national security, regional stability and strategic autonomy.
It is urgent to strengthen preparedness against geopolitical and energy shocks, said President Christodoulides, adding that this reality also guides the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union (EU), but also the goal of making energy a key pillar of EU-Egypt relations.
He also pointed out that stronger partnerships are needed to reduce risks through diversity, common infrastructure and ensuring accessible energy.
President Christodoulides said that Cyprus and Egypt are uniquely positioned as links between regions, to mobilize in times of crisis, to promote the development of natural resources, energy corridors and regional stability.
Finally, he noted that the scope for cooperation between Cyprus and Egypt is unlimited.
