Greece and France signed nine important agreements last Saturday, April 25, 2026, at the Maximos Mansion, in the presence of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and French President Emmanuel Macron, further strengthening the strategic cooperation between the two countries in a wide range of sectors.
The agreements focused on deepening the bilateral relationship, with a focus on defence, security, education, technology and innovation. The renewal of the strategic partnership for cooperation in defence and security stands out, confirming the key role of Franco-Greek cooperation in the European geopolitical environment.
At the same time, a new “roadmap” for cooperation between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the two countries was agreed to, while particular emphasis was also placed on the education sector, with joint initiatives to strengthen vocational education, training and lifelong learning.
An important step taken was the action plan for the period 2026-2030, which concerns higher education and scientific research, as well as the intention to cooperate in the field of nuclear technology, opening new prospects in the energy sector.
In the field of technology and innovation, the two sides reached an agreement to establish an intergovernmental organization that will develop digital ocean systems and IT services, while the declaration of cooperation in research and development in the field of defence and military technologies is also of particular importance.
Defence cooperation at the operational level also occupies a special place in the agreements, with the signing of a framework agreement for the support of MICA IR/RF missiles, as well as the first executive contract for 2026 between the Greek Ministry of National Defence and MBDA France, a manufacturer of complex weapons systems.
These agreements confirm the strategic convergence of Athens and Paris, strengthening their role as pillars of stability and cooperation in Europe and the Mediterranean.
